Comparing numbers to a million

This week in Maths the children have continued to read and write numbers to a million as well as comparing numbers.

The children complete a worksheet every day and once they have checked their answers they can choose between a fluency sheet question or problem solving activity. This allows the children to use their skills and understanding to answer questions in numerous ways and activities.

The children have enjoyed the various games and competitive activities this week. A great week in Maths.

Eedi Homework

On Friday all of the children were able to log into their homework accounts and they all finished their first homework.

Please look out for your child’s homework passwords as they were sent home on Friday. If for some reason your child lost them, please contact me and I will send them over electronically.

Eedi homework will be set every Friday and is due a week later. However, at times there will be two home-works, one on a Friday and one on a Wednesday.

Homework is your child’s responsibility. Please do not do it for them. Of course, if your child asks for help, you may read the question to them and ask them what they know in order for them to answer the question.

HOMEWORK should only take 20 minutes a session. If your child is struggling with it after 20 minutes, then please let us know as we may need to reteach this or complete an intervention with your child.

Many thanks for your support. Mrs Gregory

Over the next few weeks, Year 5 will be studying all about place value.

In Year 4, the children would have learnt about numbers up to 1,000. This year we begin to look at numbers up to 1,000,000. A huge jump.

The last couple of weeks we have used different resources to represent numbers such as number lines, base ten, place value counters, part whole model. The children are really enjoying this and they are becoming more confident saying the numbers correctly.

I have added some photos from our learning wall to help parents/carers with examples of what the children have been taught.
